WHAT DOES BIOAVAILABILITY MEAN?
Bioavailability is defined as follows: “The degree to which a drug or other substance becomes available to the target tissue after administration”—The American Heritage Medical Dictionary.
An intravenous dose is considered 100% bioavailable. This is because it is delivered directly to the bloodstream. This means bioavailability refers to the percentage of a dose actually absorbed by the body in comparison to an injected dose, and is the truest measurement of cannabis product potency.
Each delivery method (vaping, smoking, tincture, capsules, suppository or topical) have varying bioavailability, as well as, on-set and duration time. These can be big determining factors when selecting the best cannabis product for our specific wants and needs.
This chart is meant for general guidance. We always encourage members to speak to their physician regarding all cannabis products.
