With CBD awareness on the rise, more and more people are experimenting with ways to incorporate it into their daily lives!
Adding CBD to home cooked favourites can be a convenient and comforting way to medicate for many. An important note when infusing CBD into your food is too not heat the oil on direct heat. While warming the oil may increase its effectiveness, heating the oil too much can cause terpene loss, necessary compounds that work in tandem with CBD. It can also evaporate if temperatures reach higher than 160–180°C (320–356°F). Much like THC, CBD is a fat-soluble compound, meaning that it absorbs better being taken alongside a beneficial fat. While CBD oil is the more commonly used in recipes, CBD isolate powder can just as easily be whisked into vinaigrettes and sauces. Making a CBD infused butter is a popular and easy way to incorporate your medicine into meals because of its versatility. It can be simply spread onto toast or added to baking or savoury recipes with ease. Here’s a recipe for how to make your own CBD butter at home:
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own CBD oil infused butter:
- 2 cups unsalted butter
- 10 grams CBD oil
- 4 cups water
How to make CBD oil infused butter:
- Cut the butter into several smaller pieces.
- Combine the butter pieces, water, and CBD hemp oil into a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat. Continue cooking on low for 3-4 hours.
- Gently stir mixture every 30 minutes using a metal spoon. The mixture will eventually thicken as the water cooks off.
- Once the mixture appears glossy and dense, remove the saucepan from the stovetop and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Once the mixture is safe to handle, pour it into an airtight container. Secure the container’s lid firmly and place the container of CBD butter into the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to let it solidify.
Proper Dosing
Getting your doses right is an important factor to consider when cooking with CBD, and if you’re bad at math like I am, it can be a bit intimidating. Here’s a way that I do the math:
If you make 8 tbsp of CBD butter and used 2 grams of 25% oil (500mg of CBD), and your recipe calls for 4 tbsp of butter, you will have 250mg of CBD in your recipe. Divide that into the number of servings you make, and you have your per serving basis of CBD.
